The Address | Benghazi – Libya
TOBRUK – Member of the House of Representatives and chairman of the House’s Committee for Defense and National Security, Talal Abdullah al-Mayhoub, said on Monday that Italy’s ambassador to Libya, Giuseppe Perrone, will will soon return to Tripoli.
Speaking to Italian news agency Agenzia Nova, al-Mayhoub said that Ambassador Perrone, “will soon return to Tripoli, perhaps also in the coming days.”
Al-Mayhoub stated that he spoke with General Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, whom assured him that the ambassador will return soon.
“I spoke three days ago with Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, who is in contact with the Italian Foreign Ministry and told me that Perrone will soon return to Tripoli.”
Perrone was sent back to Italy on August 10th and since then he has not returned to Libya. His departure came following his comments on the Libyan elections which were widely condemned by Libya’s political and social circles and sparked mass demonstrations across the country.
On November 29th, Italy’s Foreign Minister, Enzo Moavero Milanesi, told his country’s Chamber of Deputies that the return of the ambassador is “urgent” and “to be resolved in the shortest time”.
