TRIPOLI – The Libyan Health Ministry’s Center for Disease Control said on Monday that nearly 5,000 HIV infections have been reported since the beginning of 2018.

“Some … are new and others are living with the virus for a while,” said Badr Al-Deen Al-Najjar, director of the Center for Disease Control.

Only 2,000 patients are registered with the Center’s system and have received treatment, he pointed out.

The latest statistics raise the number of the virus infections in Libya to more than 10,000, up from nearly 6,000 infections registered in 2017, according to the health ministry.
