The Address | Benghazi – Libya
ROME – Italy’s Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, said on Sunday that he will meet “in a week” with Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, General Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), and chairman of the Presidential Council of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj, according to Italian news agency ANSA.
Conte made his statement in response to a question by Italian T.V. TG2 on the stabilization process of Libya. However, he did not provide any further details on such meeting.
He stressed that the Palermo conference on Libya, which was held earlier in November, “was not a showcase”, but part of a “journey” and “Italy is making its contribution” towards the stabilization in Libya.
Conte recently received Field Marshal Haftar at the presidential palace of Chigi in Rome on December 6th.
