The Gulf summit affirms support for Salamé and the Skhirat agreement

RIYADH –  The Supreme Council of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)reaffirmed its support for political solution to the crisis in Libya, with the Skhirat agreement, signed in December 2015, as the framework for ending the crisis.

At the 39th GCC summit in Riyadh, the Libyan dossier was listed among 72 agenda according to the concluding statement issued Sunday, but it did not top the agenda.

The Gulf summit stressed its positions on the crisis in Libya by announcing support of the efforts of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ghassan Salamé, and affirming that the Skhirat agreement is a framework for ending the Libyan crisis.

The GCC countries affirmed their support for “the security, stability and unity of the Libyan territories and supporting efforts to counter the terrorist organization (ISIS)”, according to the statement.
