On the anniversary of Sirte’s liberation, PC confirms that ISIS hasn’t been defeated

TRIPOLI – The Presidential Council of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) confirmed that ISIS terror group has not been completely defeated in the city of Sirte, pointing to the infiltration of some of its elements that try to gather in other areas.

“There are sleeping cells waiting for an opportunity to engage in criminal activity, and we need to be very careful,” reads a statement published on Monday by the Council to mark the city’s liberation.

The statement called for continued monitoring and follow-up operations, pointing out that the war against terrorism will end only by uprooting it. “The enemy targets all of us without discrimination.”

The Presidential Council stated reconstruction is another battle no less important than the battle of liberation, which is ought be won by the minds and hands of all Libyans. The Council also called for a national reconciliation, and the unification of all state institutions to establish basis for development and renaissance.
