Al-Bashir arrives in Syria, marking the first visit by an Arab leader to the country since 2011

DAMASCUS – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Sunday received Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir, whom became the first Arab leader to visit Syria since the conflict erupted in the country seven years ago.

The Syrian government said that the two presidents headed after the arrival of Bashir to the People’s Palace, where they held a meeting on bilateral relations and developments in the situation in Syria and the region.

The Syrian government added that the two presidents stressed during the meeting that the conditions and crises experienced by many Arab countries require new approaches to Arab action based on respect for the sovereignty of states and non-interference in their internal affairs.
