Libyan delegation holds a seminar in Italy to discuss women’s participation in the political process

SYRACUSE – A Libyan delegation held a seminar on Monday in the Italian city of Syracuse to discuss women’s participation in the political process.

The seminar is was held at the headquarters of the Syracuse International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights and is promoted and organized by Minerva, an Italian non-profit organization, with the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the discussion of the first day of the seminar, the administrative experiences between the Libyan and Italian administrators were compared.

The Libyan participants included member of Sirte municipal council Haniya Abu Khirais, member of Souq al Jum’aa municipal council Awatif Fathi Aljidaemi, member of Benghazi municipal Council Najiyah Abdullah Jibreel and President of the Development Organization in Support of Youth and Women in Libya Samira EI Masoudi.

Among the Italian participants there was consultant for Municipalities Pietro Coppa, associate Professor of International Law at the Department of Law of the University of Messina Marcella Distefano, assessor of the budget of the Municipality of Syracuse Nicola Lo Lacono and Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Scicli Caterina Riccotti.
