TRIPOLI – Italy’s Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, was received on Sunday by chairman of Presidential Council of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj, in the capital Tripoli.
According to a statement by GNA’s Media Office, Conte and Al-Sarraj discussed developments in the political situation in Libya, bilateral relations and means of enhancing cooperation between the two countries.
Al-Sarraj briefed Conte on the steps taken by GNA regarding economic and security reform.
For his part, Conte expressed his delight to visit Tripoli. He reiterated his country’s support for GNA’s efforts regarding the national reconciliation and the democratic process.
The two sides held talks on a number of issues related to economic and security cooperation and activating the joint friendship agreement. Both sides agreed to arrange for joint committee meetings early next year.
The meeting was also attended by Conte’s accompanying delegation and a number of GNA officials including its Foreign Minister Mohamed Taher Siala.
