The Address | Benghazi – Libya

TRIPOLI – The Libyan Center for Freedom of Press (LCFP) said that security forces of the Interior Ministry of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) has attacked journalists representing nine media outlets.

The journalists were invited by the ministry to cover the graduation ceremony of the Coast Guard batch on Thursday at Tripoli’s sea port.

In a statement via Twitter, LCFP confirmed that the security forces had raised their weapons against journalists, but did not indicate whether journalists were beaten or not.

LCFP called upon GNA’s Interior Minister, Fathi Bashagha, to take his responsibility towards ensuring journalists safety.

LCFP said its Monitoring Unit has recorded more than 20 attacks by employees of the Ministry of the Interior in 2018.
