TRIPOLI – The Tripoli-based Navy revealed on Saturday  that it rescued 14 crew members from a cargo ship that was left adrift in front of Tripoli port on Wednesday due to high waves and bad weather.

“A cargo ship called Atlantis with the Liberian flag was left adrift as a result of the rough sea and high waves while trying to enter the port of Tripoli,” the Navy’s information office said in a statement.

The ship hit rocks and water leaked to the engines which prompted the Libya Navy to intervene, the statement said.

The Navy said it coordinated with the ship crew to provide necessary help and prevent the ship from capsizing.

The cargo ship was coming from Greece and had on board 14 Indian crew members.
