Former official accused of corruption appointed chargé d’affaires of Libya’s embassy in Slovakia

TRIPOLI – Foreign Minister of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), Mohamed Siala, issued a decree appointing Nasr Ali Hussein al-Mashai as chargé d’affaires of Libya’s embassy in Slovakia for the next four years.

Al-Mashai is a suspect in many corruption cases while serving as Head of the Administrative Control Authority.

According to the Head of the Bureau of Investigations in the Office of Attorney-General Siddiq Al-Sour, al-Mashai was arrested in October last year after several complaints were made against him, including by the House of Representatives, the Libyan Investment Authority and a number of employees of the Administrative Control Authority.

Al-Mashai was detained under charges of corruption and abuse of power for 30 days, and was released after the investigation concluded.
