UNHCR: Over 55,000 asylum seekers and refugees registered with UNHCR in Libya

LIBYA – As of 7 January 2019, a total of 55,934 asylum seekers and refugees are registered with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Libya, UNHCR announced on Tuesday.

A total of 3,844 individuals have been identified by UNHCR and its partners to be currently in one of the accessible Libyan detention centers.

Since the start of the evacuation operation from Libya in late 2017, a total of 2,879 persons (including unaccompanied children) have been evacuated to Niger (2,202), Italy (415) and the ETC Romania (262), according to the UN Refugee Agency.

There are 228 evacuated unaccompanied children remaining in Niger, UNHCR said.
