U.S. journalist says Turkey’s arms shipments to Libya are intended for terrorist activities

BENGHAZI – American journalist James Wheeler stated via Twitter on Saturday that Turkey’s arms shipments to Libya are intended for terrorist activities.

Wheeler pointed out the hypocrisy of Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who refers to the Kurds as terrorists while his country is sending weapons to groups linked to the Muslim Brotherhood, which is a designated terrorist organization in many countries such as Egypt, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Russia and UAE.

“Erdogan refers to the Kurds as terrorists, but the nature of the contraband weapons that Islamist Turkey is shipping to Libya makes it fairly obvious they are intended for terrorist activities of Islamist organizations linked to the Muslim Brotherhood,” Wheeler tweeted.

Last Monday, Misurata’s customs department seized weapons inside a container coming from Turkey in the city’s port. Three weeks earlier, customs members of the port of Khoms seized a ship coming from Turkey loaded with weapons and ammunition.

The Libyan National Army (LNA) has called on the United Nations Security Council to investigate Turkey’s arms shipment as it constitutes a violation of the international law.
