The Address | Benghazi – Libya
TOBRUK – The House of Representatives called on the Lebanese authorities to clarify its position clearly and explicitly regarding the removal of the flag of Libya from the venue of the Arab Economic and Development Summit in Beirut by members of the Amal movement, which is headed by the Speaker of Lebanon’s parliament Nabih Berri.
In a statement on Monday, the House of Representatives condemned “in the strongest terms” the attack on Libya’s flag; “the symbol of its independence and sovereignty.”
“Such unfortunate and unjustified acts under any pretext are an insult to all the people of Libya.” Reads the House’s statement.
Tensions have surged in recent days over the issue of Libya’s participation in Beirut’s economic summit. Members of Amal movement, a major political party in Lebanon, expressed their dissatisfaction with Libya’s participation over the decades-long case of the disappearance of its founder, Imam Moussa al-Sadr.
