TRIPOLI – The Interior Minister of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) said, that the challenges facing his ministry are armed groups, weapons proliferation outside state control, organised crime, terrorism & Da’esh, illegal/Irregular migration, arms embargo imposed on Libya, in addition to political and security division.
GNA Interior Minister statement was in an international security meeting held in Tripoli today and sponsored by UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame, and his Deputy for Political Affairs, Stephanie Williams, opened the expanded meeting chaired by Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha and attended by the Ministry officials and the ambassadors of the International Community in Libya, UNSMIL said.
“In Libya, we aren’t short of financial resources; but we request the Int’l Community to support us with advanced training, technology and required systems for surveillance and monitoring to enable us to combat crime and terrorism,” GNA Interior Minister Bashagha to Ambassadors.
“This meeting is necessary, because there’s a firm decision by GNA & Minister Bashagha to exercise all responsibilities entrusted to the ministry & extend state’s authority. This meeting is a clear message of the Int’l Community’s strong support for this decision,” Salame said.
