The Address | Benghazi – Libya
TRIPOLI – Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Ghassan Salamé, is due to brief the U.N. Security Council on the latest development in Libya tomorrow.
Salamé is likely to address the recent clashes in Tripoli which broke out on Wednesday in violation of the U.N.-sponsored ceasefire agreement.
The UN envoy is also likely to address the deteriorating situation in the southern region following his visit to Sabha a few days ago. Southern residents complained to him about the growing presence of foreign militias which prompted the Libyan National Army (LNA) to conduct a regional operation to eradicate the foreign presence in Libyan territory.
Salamé could present further details on the upcoming national conference which he proposed during his last Security Council briefing in November last year.
