The Address | Benghazi – Libya
TRIPOLI – Chairman of the Presidential Council of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj, arrived on Sunday in Qasr Ben Ghashir, the area in which deadly clashes broke out between militias less than a week ago.
The capital witnesses a cautious calm after a tribal delegation from Bani Walid arrived earlier today to negotiate a possible truce.
Al-Sarraj was accompanied by his Interior Minister, Fathi Bashagha, and a number of military officers affiliated with the Tripoli-based government.
He also visited Tripoli’s International Airport were he “monitored” the airport’s security arrangements and “the procedures for handing it over to the concerned authorities through the Ministry of Interior,” according to a statement by GNA’s media office.
Last Wednesday, armed clashes broke out between GNA-funded militias; the so-called Tripoli Protection Force and the 7th Brigade in the Qasr Ben Ghashir area south of Tripoli.
Seventeen people were killed and tens others injured in less than a week.
