Over 56,000 asylum seekers and refugees registered with UNHCR in Libya (Jan 21)

As of 21 January 2019, a total of 56,549 asylum seekers and refugees are registered with the United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Libya, UNHCR said.

A total of 3,805 individuals have been identified by UNHCR and its partners to be currently in one of the accessible Libyan detention centers, according to the UN refugee agency.

Since the start of the evacuation operation from Libya in late 2017, a total of 2,879 persons (including unaccompanied children) have been evacuated to Niger (2,202), Italy (415) and the ETC Romania (262), UNHCR reported.

There are 177 evacuated unaccompanied children remaining in Niger, UNHCR added.
