Milanesi: Italy’s security is tied to restoring stability to Libya

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

BRUSSELS – Italian Foreign Minister, Enzo Moavero Milanesi, stressed the importance of restoring stability to Libya in terms of security, in a narrow sense, for his country and not only to control the flow of migrants.

“We must figure out how to bring Libya back to a normal situation,” Milanesi told reporters in Brussels on Tuesday, “This is necessary for us. Libya is in front of us [on the other side of the Mediterranean]. This is not only with regard to migrants, but also with regard to the issue of security, in the strict sense of the word. ”

On migration flows in particular, the Head of Italian Diplomacy stated that “the Libyan search and rescue region, like other Mediterranean search and rescue regions (SRR), requires special attention.”

“This applies to us and to Malta and Libya,” said Milanesi before adding, “the question of the ability of different countries to intervene are part of the objectives of the various European missions, which are undergoing physiological development.”
