Libyan MP calls on Lebanese authorities to release Hannibal Gaddafi

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

TOBRUK – The Libyan Parliament Member, Zayed Hadia, called on the Lebanese authorities to release Hannibal Gaddafi from prison.

The detention of the Libyan citizen, Hannibal al-Gaddafi, is considered a political arrest and not a legal one, which is in violation of the international laws and regulations, the Parliament Member exclusively told the Libyan Address Journal.

I am not surprised by the silence of the UN which always talks about restricting freedoms and arbitrary detentions. I know that the United Nations does not care about these things, and the reason is clear and known, because these issues do not concern the interests of the Security Council states, which work only for their interests and who can achieve those interests for them, Hadia added.

I appeal to the League of Arab States, and I was surprised by its silence on this issue, and I ask my colleagues at the members of the House of Representatives (parliament), and in particular representatives of the Libyan Parliament in the Arab Parliament, to move through the Arab Parliament for a clarification from the State of Lebanon regarding the issue and to take a clear position that would solve the problem of Mr. Hannibal Gaddafi and release him without any conditions or restrictions, he stated.

It is noteworthy that the Lebanese judiciary issued an official arrest warrant for Hannibal Gaddafi, the son of former Libyan Leader Muammer Gaddafi, in December 2015 on charges of not disclosing information about the disappearance of Shiite leader Musa al-Sadr after his visit to Libya in August 1978.
