The Address | Benghazi – Libya
VIENNA – Chairman of the Presidential Council of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj, arrived on Monday in Austria where he held talks with its president, Alexander Van der Bellen.
According to a statement by GNA’s media office, Al-Sarraj and Van der Bellen discussed latest developments in Libya as well as bilateral relations and migration.
Later on, Al-Sarraj held talks the Chancellor of Austria, Sebastian Kurz, to discuss economic cooperation in various fields. The two officials also discussed the possible return of Austrian embassy and Austrian companies to work in Libya.
Both sides agreed on the importance of cooperation in combating crime, smuggling, human trafficking and reducing illegal migration by unifying the vision in the interests of all parties.
Kurz stated via Twitter that he and Al-Sarraj “achieved a lot in our joint fight against people smugglers. Our common goal is to enhance our cooperation to fight illegal migration even further.”
