Over 56,000 asylum seekers and refugees registered with UNHCR in Libya, almost 3000 evacuated

LIBYA – As of 28 January 2019, a total of 56,756 asylum seekers and refugees are registered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Libya, UNHCR reported.

A total of 3,906 individuals have been identified by UNHCR and its partners to be currently in one of the accessible Libyan detention centers, the UN Refugee Agency said.

Since the start of the evacuation operation from Libya in late 2017, a total of 2,879 persons (including unaccompanied children) have been evacuated to Niger (2,202), Italy (415) and the ETC Romania (262), according to UNHCR.

There are 176 evacuated unaccompanied children remaining in Niger, the report said.
