Aboul Gheit: AL & EU must multiply efforts in Libya to overcome political stalemate

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

BRUSSELS – Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, stressed on Monday the need for the Arab League and the European Union to multiply efforts to overcome political stalemate in Libya.

Speaking at the fifth European Union-Arab League ministerial meeting, currently in session in Brussels, Aboul Gheit said that due to delay in constitutional and electoral commitments, “the Arab League and EU must work together – in a coherent and complementary manner – to accompany the Libyan brothers in this process,”

He explained that such support must come through supporting the work of the United Nations envoy, Ghassan Salamé, “in a way that preserves the unity and territorial integrity of the Libyan state, unifies its institutions and lead to the achievement of comprehensive national reconciliation among its people.”
