Former Gaddafi-era commander arrives in Tripoli as a pretext for GNA to intervene in the south

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

Tripoli – A source told The Address that former Gaddafi-era commander, Ali Kanna, is being transported from El Sharara oil field in the town of Ubari to Tripoli via an airplane by the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) as a pretext for GNA to assign him as its military commander in the southern region.

Kanna was former commander of the Commandos Battalion during the reign of late dictator Muammar Gaddafi and has strong ties to Qatar.

According to the source, Kanna’s potential assignment in the southern region constitutes an attempt by GNA’s Prime Minister, Fayez Al-Sarraj, to shuffle the cards and to fuse civil war in the Libyan south after its imminent liberation by the Libyan National Army (LNA) from Chadian armed opposition elements.
