N’DJAMENA – Chad’s government announced on Sunday the capturing of leader of the armed rebel group Rally of Democratic Forces, Timane Erdimi.
Erdimi was among the 250 Chadian armed rebels whom were captured on Saturday during their attempt to enter the borders of Chad coming from Libya.
An international arrest warrant was issued by Chad for Erdimi in 2007. He was among 12 people sentenced to death in absentia by a Chadian court on August 15, 2008.
Erdimi, who has been in Qatar since late 2009, was also at the center of diplomatic row between Chad and Qatar. Chad closed its embassy in the Gulf country in 2017. Chad said the decision came following Qatar’s repetitive decline to hand over Erdimi, as well as, Qatar’s attempts to destabilize Chad from Libya.
