AU calls for presidential & legislative elections to be held in Libya in October 2019

ADDIS ABABA – The African Union released a statement of the key decisions of its 32nd Assembly Ordinary Session. The African Union called for a organizing presidential and legislative elections in Libya in October 2019 in coordination with the United Nations and the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA).

The African Union requested its Commission, which is chaired by Moussa Faki, “to take, jointly with the United Nations and the Libyan Government, all the necessary measures for the organization of presidential and legislative elections in October 2019.”

The African Union also requested the Commission “to take the necessary measures, jointly with the United Nations, with a view to organizing during the first half of July 2019, the Inclusive Libyan National Peace and Reconciliation Forum.”
