Deputy Director of Italy’s foreign intelligence made unannounced visit to Tripoli yesterday

TRIPOLI – Deputy Director of Italy’s foreign intelligence AISE, Giovanni Caravelli, made an unannounced visit to Tripoli on Monday, an official source reported.

According to the source, the visit came at the invitation of the Presidential Council of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA).

Caravelli was accompanied by a high-level delegation and met with chairman of Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sarraj, among other officials.

Caravelli’s visit was short and concise. He arrived at Mititga Airport at 9 am and left after his meetings at 2 pm, the source said.

The source said he is unaware of the purpose of Caravelli’s visit. However, the visit came in the aftermath of the Libyan National Army’s control of El-Sharara oilfield.
