The Address | Benghazi – Libya
TRIPOLI – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) on Sunday congratulated the Libyan people on the eighth anniversary of the 2011 uprising.
In a statement, UNSMIL took the opportunity to “call on all Libyan parties to circumvent efforts to end the suffering of the Libyan people,” and to “move confidently towards building a capable state and enshrine the values of democracy in the region.”
The 17th of February marks the beginning of a country-wide uprising in 2011 against late Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi who rule the country for 42 years. The uprising ended after Gaddafi was killed by rebels eight months later in 20 October 2011.
