ICC prosecutor meets with Al-Sarraj & Salamé at the Munich Security Conference

MUNICH – Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Fatou Bensouda, met on Saturday with Prime Minister of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj, at the Munich Security Conference.

According to a statement by GNA’s media office, Bensouda and Al-Sarraj stressed importance of accountability for atrocity crimes as an important component of security and stability in Libya. They vowed continued close cooperation to end impunity.

Al-Sarraj invited Bensouda to visit Libya and hold discussions with the Office of the Attorney-General and officials of GNA’s Justice Ministry. Bensouda accepted the visit invitation whose date will be decided later.

In a similar context, Bensouda held a separate meeting with Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Ghassan Salamé.

During the meeting, Bensouda and Salamé discussed implementation of international law in Libya. Salamé availed his full support for ICC efforts.
