TRIPOLI – Foreign Minister of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), Mohamed Siala, denied on Monday reports on the possibility of installing any foreign military base in the national territory.
Siala said in a press conference that the request made by GNA is limited to providing assistance to improve the capabilities of its forces. His remarks came in response to a question from the Russian news agency Sputnik about the United States’ intention to establish a military base in Libya.
“Libya welcomes all actors working to increase the efficiency of our security forces,” he said.
Last Saturday, Head of GNA, Fayez Al-Sarraj, asked the commander of the United States Command for Africa (AFRICOM), Thomas Waldhauser, to prepare a field training program for GNA’s security units, under the supervision of AFRICOM trainers.
