The Address | Benghazi – Libya
NEW YORK – The Secretary-General of the United Nations welcomed the 27 February meeting in the United Arab Emirates, convened by his Special Representative for Libya, Ghassan Salamé, between the President of the Presidency Council of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez al-Sarraj, and the General Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.
The Secretary-General commends both parties on the progress made, in particular the agreement on the need to end the transitional stages in Libya through the holding of general elections, and also the commitment to maintain stability in the country and unify its institutions, UN said in a statement yesterday.
The Secretary-General hopes further progress can be achieved on the basis of what has already been agreed upon, with the support of the international community, according to the statement, signed by Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesman for the Secretary-General.
