The Address | Benghazi – Libya

Operation Sophia, formally known as the European Union Naval Force Mediterranean, has announced the launch of two new training programs for the Libyan Coast Guard in Croatia and Crete.

The European Commission said that with these new training programs, the number of graduates will reach more than 355 officers, from the Coast Guard and the Libyan Navy, who have received direct training in Europe.

Operation Sophia is a military operation of the European Union that was established as a consequence of the April 2015 Libya migrant shipwrecks with the aim of neutralizing established refugee smuggling routes in the Mediterranean. The operational headquarters is located in Rome.
