The Address | Benghazi – Libya
SABHA – Humanitarian Coordinator of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Maria Ribeiro, arrived in the city of Sabha on Monday for discussions on humanitarian support.
Ribeiro was accompanied by a delegation from UN agencies such as UNICEF, UNDP and UNHCR as well as the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the World Food Program (WFP).
According to a statement by UNSMIL, the delegation was received by Sabha’s Mayor Hamid Al-Khayali, who praised the UN agencies’ support to the city in providing assistance and services to citizens.
Ribeiro and her delegation listened to briefings by Sabha’s representatives on the essential needs in health and education sectors, the security situation, living conditions, poor infrastructure in the city, and the issue if irregular migration that their city suffers from.
“This is the third visit of the UN to the South in a month. We are present in the South through our national staff and as SRSG Ghassan Salamé promised in January, we are going to boost our presence in and support to the South,” Ribeiro said during her meeting with Sabha’s representatives.
