Libya will hold elections by the end of the year, GNA Head says

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

TRIPOLI – Libya will hold parliamentary and presidential elections by the end of the year, said the Head of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez al-Sarraj, on Tuesday, in a speech to the heads of the Western Region’s municipalities on the latest developments in the political, security and economic situation.

The United Nations had planned to hold elections in Libya on Dec. 10 last year as a way to end the crisis in the country.

Al-Sarraj had met last week in Abu Dhabi with the General Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.

“I agreed with Haftar to hold elections by the end of the year,” he said.

The meeting came in order to end bloodshed and reach a formula to save our country from conflict and military escalation, al-Sarraj added.
