USA, UK, France & Italy welcome NOC decision to lift force majeure at El-Sharara oilfield

TRIPOLI – The Ambassadors of France, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States welcomed the Tripoli-based National Oil Corporation’s (NOC) decision to lift force majeure and immediately resume production at the crucial El-Sharara oil field.

In a joint statement released on Saturday, the ambassadors said they “commend the leadership of UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General [Ghassan] Salamé and the UN Support Mission in Libya in promoting security arrangements that have allowed the NOC to resume its vital work on behalf of all Libyans.”

NOC officially announced last Monday that it had lifted force majeure at the El Sharara oilfield, the country’s biggest, which has been closed since December when state guards and tribesmen seized it.
