TRIPOLI – Italy’s President, Giuseppe Conte, on Friday discussed Libya’s political process in a long telephone call with Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Ghassan Salamé.
According to a statement by the Italian Presidency, Conte and Salamé discussed “the prospects of stabilization in the light of the latest developments on the ground,” in a reference to a meeting in the United Arab Emirates two weeks ago between General Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, and Head of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj.
The the political agreement, the level of security and the economic conditions of Libya have been “at the center of the talks.”
“Conte hoped that the path traced would coagulate the availability and responsibility of all the players involved, in line with the expectations of the Libyan people,” the statement concluded.
