Nobody injured after gunshot attack against Al-Sarraj in Mitiga Airport, source

TRIPOLI – Head of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj, and his convoy were attacked by gunshots upon his arrival at Mitiga Airport on Monday evening following his visit to Qatar.

An official source inside the airport told The Address that incident occurred just after Al-Sarraj landed via a Qatari plane.

After he disembarked from the plane, Al-Sarraj and his convoy headed towards the airport’s Gate 9, where the gunshot attack happened.

The sources added that nobody was injured during the attack, however, it caused a state of panic among Al-Sarraj’s guards and the airport’s security forces.

The airport authorities opened an investigation regarding the indecent, the source stated before adding that flights resumed at the airport a while after.

No official statement was released by GNA, its Interior Ministry or the airport authorizes regarding the attack.
