The Address | Benghazi – Libya
TRIPOLI – Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Ghassan Salamé, said that it is corruption and the struggle for resources among rival factions that hinder the resolution of the crisis in Libya.
Speaking during an interview with the Qatar-based Al-Jazeera TV channel, Salamé said that an equal distribution of wealth is “the only solution for Libya”.
The UN envoy denounced the widespread corruption among a political elite that ignores “poor and unhappy citizens” in an oil-rich country.
“It is sad to see them taking over the wealth, investing it abroad and dedicating themselves to money laundering.” He said.
Last week, Salamé announced that the Libyan National Conference will be held from 14 to 16 April in the Libyan city of Ghadames.
