The Address | Benghazi – Libya
TUNIS – Foreign Minister of the Libyan Interim Government, Abdulhadi Lehwaij, held a meeting on Saturday with President of the International Peace Institute (IPI), Terje Rød-Larsen, on the margins of the 3oth Arab League summit in Tunisia.
Lehwaij and Rød-Larsen discussed the Libyan crisis and prospect of political settlement in the country.
Lehwaij explained that the Libyan people does not accept any solutions imposed from abroad. He stressed that dialogue is the first step towards reconciliation, yet he noted that any party is welcomed for dialogue “except for terrorists”.
He also pointed out to the need to establish a mechanism to collect weapons from the militias in the capital Tripoli.
At the end of the meeting, Lehwaij invited Rød-Larsen to visit the major cities of Libya’s eastern region, Benghazi, Torbuk and Al Bayda, to witness the level of stability achieved by the Libyan National Army (LNA).
