Libya’s Parliament demands postponement of unfreezing funds until after elections

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

TOBRUK – The House of Representatives on Tuesday demanded the international community postpone the unfreezing of Libyan bank accounts abroad until after the elections.

The House of Representatives demanded the Libyan concerned authorities, United Nations Security Council and international community reject the unfreezing of the accounts, the parliament said in a statement.

“Unfreezing the accounts will expose them to the risk of mismanagement and corruption in this transitional phase in our country,” the statement explained.

The parliament’s demand came after the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) called on the international community to partially unfreeze Libyan accounts abroad.

Libya’s stated have been frozen under UN Security Council’s Resolution 1973 since 2011.
