No peace deal can be reached in Libya as long as militias control Tripoli, Speaker of HoR says

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

LIBYA- The Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR) said Wednesday that no peace deal can be reached right now between rival factions in the country because the capital, Tripoli, is being controlled by armed groups.

“Even if a deal is reached there is no way that it would be implemented and Fayez al-Sarraj, the Chairman of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), cannot commit to anything as long as those militias are messing with the capital, Saleh pointed out.

“As long as the capital Tripoli is controlled by those groups, no agreement will be in place, and as we had seen before that there had been meetings between the General Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, and Fayez al-Sarraj, but nothing was reached due to those militias hold of the capital Tripoli,” he stated.

LNA has stepped in to bring order to Tripoli, HoR Speaker confirmed.
