The Address | Benghazi – Libya
TRIPOLI – Head of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj, has claimed that 800,000 migrants are set to “invade” Italy and Europe from Libya.
Speaking to Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Al-Sarraj urged Italy intervene in the current situation in Tripoli.
“Do something quickly,” he said, “the worsening of the situation in Libya could push 800,000 migrants and Libyans to invade Italy and Europe”.
Among them, he said, were criminals and, above all, jihadists linked to ISIS.
Al-Sarraj thanked Italy for its mediation and for the fact that it kept the embassy in Tripoli open and functional. “But above all for its support for peace in Libya.”
