The Address | Benghazi – Libya
ROME – Italy’s Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, discussed with President of the United States, Donald Trump, the situation in Libya during a telephone call on Wednesday, a statement by the Italian government said.
During the conversation, of which Libya was “the main topic”, Conte and Trump discussed their “shared concern about the escalation on the ground and the risks of a humanitarian crisis,” according to the statement of the Italian government.
Conte and Trump “have therefore agreed on the opportunity to maintain a direct line to identify a sustainable solution, through new contacts since the coming days.”
The Libyan National Army (LNA) launched a military operation in Tripoli in April 4 to push back against militias and terror groups which dominated the capital since the overthrow of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
