Italy pledges €2 million for UNHCR to protect refugees & displaced persons in Libya

ROME – Italy will provide a two-million-euro financing to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to protect refugees and displaced persons in Libya, the Italian Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday.

“In consideration of the situation in Libya and of the risks to which the civilian population, the refugees and the migrants are exposed, the Foreign Ministry has arranged a two-million-euro financing to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) from its Africa Fund to provide assistance to displaced persons and refugees in Libya.” Reads the statement of the Italian Foreign Ministry.

The project to be implemented in Libya aims to distribute relief supplies to approximately 20,000 displaced families, provide assistance to 750 refugee families, and expedite up to 17 quick impact projects benefiting 8,500 people.
