Cyprus refutes allegations by GNA Interior Minister regarding citizenship requests of Field Marshal Haftar’s sons

NICOSIA – Cyprus has refuted allegations made by the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) that sons of General Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, made citizenship applications in the Eastern Mediterranean island.

On Tuesday, GNA’s Interior Minister, Fathi Bashagha, claimed in a letter addressed to his Cypriot counterpart that Field Marshal Haftar’s sons; Khaled, Sadam Al-Sadiq and Belqassem have applied for citizenship in Cyprus.

Bashagha requested from Cyprus to deny Field Marshal Haftar’s sons those alleged applications.

However, Cyprus’s Interior Minister Constantinos Petrides said on Thursday that he did not officially receive such letter nor were any applications made, according to Cyprus Mail news website.

“We have not officially received such a letter but such applications from Libya do not appear to exist,” Petrides said.
