Washington confirms its support to fighting terrorism in Libya

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

WASHINGTON, DC – The main objective to be achieved in Libya is to eliminate all terrorist groups in order to enable the Libyans to unite and build a democratic state, said US Defense Department Spokeswoman for North Africa.

The Spokeswoman did not deny the existence of previous contacts between the US administration and the General Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.

“The US armed forces will support anyone who contributes to this and to find a long-term diplomatic solution,” she told al-Hurra TV channel, adding that this is currently sponsored by the State Department.

Under the leadership of Marshal Haftar, LNA is fighting to rid the capital of Tripoli of armed militias within a long battle started five years ago to eradicate terrorism in Libya in which it liberated the cities of Benghazi, Derna and the southern part of Libya (Fezzan) from terrorist groups and armed militias.
