Salvini: 150 refugees arrive from Misurata to Italy through humanitarian corridor

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

ROME – Italy’s Interior Minister, Matteo Salvini, was present today at the military airport of Pratica di Mare to welcome a group of more than a hundred refugees, coming from Misurata, who arrived in Italy thanks to a humanitarian corridor.

“Today 150 certified men and women arrive by plane from Libya.” Salvini said. “They are fleeing the war with a humanitarian corridor organized by the Ministry of the Interior because this is how we arrive in Italy, not with small boats or traffickers of human beings”.

Yesterday, Pope Francis made an appeal during the Sunday Angelus prayer at the Vatican calling for the evacuation of refugees held in detention camps in Libya as fighting escalates in Tripoli.
