SABRATHA – Protesters in Sabratha west of Tripoli on Wednesday night blocked the way of the convoy of the UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame as he was traveling overland in a large convoy from Ras Jdair border crossing with Tunisia to Tripoli coming from France via Tunisia.
The convoy was intercepted along the coastal road. Citizens protested that the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) did not condemn the air strikes carried out by air force planes from Misurata, supported by the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), on the cities of the western region on a daily basis, according to media sources.
Salame refused to listen to the demands of the protesters and remained in his car until the security services intervened and reopened the road for the convoy, which went to Tripoli, the sources said.
