German Chancellor reiterates the need for a political solution in Libya

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

OUAGADOUGOU –  It is essential to find a political solution to the situation in Libya, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Thursday.

Speaking at the end of a meeting with the presidents of the Sahel states in Burkina Faso, Merkel warned that Libya “can be the cradle for new terrorists”.

“This risk must be avoided. And to achieve this goal there is only one way: the stabilization of that country.”

Clashes erupted in Tripoli between the Libya National Army (LNA) and militias of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) after LNA launched a military operation in the capital on April 4. LNA’s operation aims to eliminate militias and terrorist groups that dominated the capital since 2011.
