GNA’s Interior Minister orders arrest of a Libyan journalist; alleges he supports ISIS

The Address | Benghazi – Libya

TRIPOLI – Interior Minister of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), Fathi Bashagha, has accused Libyan journalist Mahmoud Al-Mesrati of supporting the terror group ISIS and ordered his arrest.

In a letter addressed to the office of the Attorney General, Bashagha based his accusation on a phone recording between Al-Mesrati and “a military figure” of the Libyan National Army (LNA). Bashagha further claimed that the recording proves that there is a “close relationship” between the LNA and ISIS.

Bashagha previously called on Tunisian authorities to hand over more than 40 Libyan nationals living in Tunis. Those Libyan nationals have accused the GNA Interior Minister of backing Operation Libya Dawn; a military operation launched in 2014 by a coalition of militias affiliated with the ousted General National Congress (GNC).
